Shane Van Harten has only been in the role of Production Manager for two months…however it’s not his first time at Merriwa!
“I worked in Merriwa’s Timber division just over two years ago, had a hiatus for two-and-a-half years and am delighted to return as Production Manager in the Contract Packaging and Processing division,” Shane says.
Reporting that his settling in period has been overwhelmingly positive, Shane is excited at the prospect of what could be achieved in his position.
“Merriwa is experiencing growth which is fantastic because it enables Merriwa to employ more people – people of all abilities. No doubt growth can bring challenges – but I’m confident we have the team in place to navigate this exciting period in Merriwa’s history.
“One of the many things I like about being part of the Merriwa team is that we are supported to develop as individuals, not matter what our ability,” Shane explains.
Shane says he is also impressed at Merriwa’s commitment to lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and staff training and development.
“The people here make coming to work enjoyable, every day.”
A dedicated supporter of St Kilda Football Club (“I’ve been a social club member for 31 years!”) and originally from Frankston, Shane has recently relocated to Corowa to be nearer to his “close-knit” family.
“I love the lifestyle that’s offered in regional Victoria and recommend anyone thinking about relocating to give it a go.”
Shane is no stranger to manufacturing, having spent 35 years in the automotive industry.
“I worked for a company which supplied brake parts to car manufacturers in Australia and overseas, in a variety of roles. I was involved in setting up new company sites in Thailand for several years which was a great experience.”
“It is very rewarding working for a company like Merriwa. I look forward to growing our division, quoting for lots of new work, attracting new customers and new products and employing even more diverse, multi-talented people.”
