Team Merriwa were ready to run at the Wanagratta Fun Run and Marathon held on the 20th March 2022. The team was excited to be participating in the event for the first time, with team members from across all divisions at Merriwa.

Jo Maples, Marketing and Communications Manager at Merriwa who coordinated the Merriwa team says, “This is such a great community event to be a part of and our team had a heap of fun along the way. For many of our team this was the first time they participated in a Fun Run, which was really exciting and a great way to be involved in the community.

“The Fun Run provides an opportunity for community connection, social connection and being active in a safe and inclusive environment. It was fantastic to be able to attend a large scale community event again, it’s something that we have really missed over the past two years, so it was great to be involved.”

Stephen Hardy, Sheree Willoughby and Maria Wadley from Park Lane Nursery had been in training ready for the 5km event and looked forward to a day out with their team and to support Merriwa.

Sheree has participated in the event previously and is inspired to keep up her fitness after the event too, “We’ve been attending Park Run each week with the Park Lane team, plus I walk the dog regularly so the Fun Run is a great way to be involved in the community and complete the 5km event.

“It’s also an opportunity for us as a team to put back into the community that support us at the nursery, which we are very grateful for.”

For Stephen, this was the first time he had participated in the Fun Run and he had also been training at Park Run in the lead up to the event.

Merriwa sponsored the Community Team event and also had a team of volunteers assisting at a water aid station, encouraging everyone along the way and keeping them hydrated! Well done to all involved and we hope to have a team together again in 2023.
