Our Wodonga team were thrilled to be a part of the of the Belvoir Special School Expo last month for students and their families and carers to look at post-school options. Wodonga team members Craig, Deanne, Nat, Sam and Michael attended the post school expo to talk about work opportunities at Merriwa and showcased some of the hands-on tasks carried out at Packaging.
Merriwa is proud to provide meaningful opportunities for work experience that give students the opportunity to gain hands on experience and a taste of what it is like to work with the team.
Manager of HR and Employee Engagement, Nat Milgate has seen excellent outcomes for students transition to work Merriwa, “Our work experience program is structured to support students in their pathway from school to employment. Our focus is on the student and providing a supportive and inclusive environment that embraces everyone’s abilities and skills. It is extremely rewarding to see the students build in confidence from their first day to the end of their placement and then potentially move onto part-time or full-time work with us.”
Nat continued, “We have a number of success stories with former students from across Wodonga and Wangaratta who are now long-term employees, working across all business divisions, and have taken on leadership roles throughout Merriwa, which is brilliant.”
Former Belvoir School student, Josh commenced with Merriwa in Wodonga this year and has been loving his experience, “I have been working at Packaging in Wodonga for over 10 months. I started with work experience at Merriwa through Belvoir for 10 weeks and then started working here in January 2022. I love working here because I get to hang out with my friends and everyone is great.”
