Students from the Wangaratta District Specialist School (WDSS) have been excelling in their Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) at Merriwa’s Packaging division in Wangaratta.
Merriwa currently has six students on placement from WDSS who have all received great feedback from the Merriwa team for their work ethic, positive attitude and ability to learn new skills.
Meg Rickard, Transition Out and Structured Workplace Learning Coordinator from the Wangaratta District Specialist School says “Working with Merriwa Industries has had such a positive impact on our students and their post school options.
“From the beginning where they participate in SWL through to when they gain supported employment, students develop a sense of purpose and belonging at Merriwa.
“Post school options are increased as Merriwa has a variety of programs available to students, with employment pathways in Packaging, Timbers and Park Lane Nursery.”
Eril Edwards, Engagement and Development Leader at Merriwa has commended the students on their ability to work with the Merriwa team, saying “It is a pleasure to have WDSS students at Merriwa for placement, they work extremely well with our team, listen well and pick up the skills quickly”.
SWL at Merriwa has been supported by NE TRACKS LLEN who have recently funded high visibility shirts for students to be clearly identified in the workplace, which has been well received by the students and the team at Merriwa.
