The wait is over for the Wangaratta Merriwa Magpies all abilities football team to get back into training and they are excited to be playing again in 2022.
The Merriwa Magpies compete as part of the Victorian Football Integration Development Association (FIDA) which provides the opportunity for footballers of all abilities to participate in structured competition across the State. The competition has a unique round robin format that encourages more participation and match time on game days.
The conference is played in a round robin format with the Merriwa Magpies competing against the Wodonga Jets, Echuca Moama Rockets and Goulburn Valley Stars across multiple venues throughout the year.
Coach of the Merriwa Magpies, Bob Murray, is anticipating a great season ahead for the team, “We were able to play 3 Rounds of our fixture last year before Covid brought the season to a halt, but our team will be up and about this year and keen to take on the full season ahead. We have a number of new players and our focus will really be on skill development and moving the ball up the ground, particularly after having those seasons off.”
Bart Crawley, CEO of Merriwa has said “Merriwa is extremely proud to support the Wangaratta Magpies and we love seeing how much enjoyment and fulfilment the players get from being involved in the team and the league. We’re looking forward to being involved with the team and their upcoming competitions throughout the year.”
The team trains Thursday nights at the Norm Minns Oval from 4pm – 5pm. For further information about the Merriwa Magpies, eligibility to play and how you can get involved, contact John Mullins on 0411 699 179.
